I bought these to replace the blown out speakers in my wifes Riviera. The day after I received these speakers, the car was totaled in an accident. When I received these speakers, however, I noticed that they were “Marine grade” speakers. Keep this in mind. Now I was also planning on putting additional speakers in my boat. So guess what? These Polk Audio speakers will be installed in my boat before spring time. Therefore, I’m keeping these speakers, I haven’t heard them yet. But they are POLK AUDIO, they are marine grade and they will fit in my boat. In the summer I can update this on how they sound.

I purchased these speakers for the purpose of installing them in a cooler for our river trip. The sound is amazing! They have pretty decent bass response for a 5.25″ and the highs are very crisp and clear. I just recently order 2 additional pairs for another cooler radio I am building for a buddy of mine. I enjoyed them that much.
I have these ran by only the head unit along w/ a pair of 4″ polk audio speakers and it has definitely bypassed my expectations. I would recommend these speakers to anyone wanting quality w/o having to shell out a lot of money. I almost bought a pair of boss 5.25″ used in previous years due to the cost effectiveness but these 2 speakers alone sound 500 times better than the boss and only a lil extra $$$. You get what you pay for and this is a steal of a deal for the sound and quality of music.

Good clean sound – not that efficient though. My Rockford Fosgates sound louder and as clean off the deck as these with 50 watts off an amplifier

From the moment I took them out of the box I was impressed. Nicely stamped steel basket of quite sturdy material with a high quality rubber surround and poly cone. After putting them into the “custom” holes in the door panels of my ‘88 Jeep Wrangler and hooking them to the head unit I fired them up and was completly Blown Away! The highs are crisp and oh so clean, the mids make sax’s sound like sax’s and guitars sound like guitars, the mid bass kick is nice and solid with not-a-speck of mushiness. But it’s the tweeter thats the killer in this unit for sure. It just sings! The crash of cymbals is so natural and clean, female voices, everything just sounds so natural coming out of these beauties.
And talk about “attack”, it’s here in spades. Try cranking up Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” and see if all the little hairs on the back of your neck don’t just stand straight up!
Now, all I have them powered by is the head unti at this point, a full 7 watts or so I imagine, and trust me when I say the head unit amp gives out long before the speakers do. The db’s just play louder and louder until the amp begins to distort, all the while showing no sign of distortion themselves. They cry to be driven by a good powerful amp!
This is the first speaker I have ever had in my Wrangler in the 19 years or so that I have been driving it that can play loud enopugh to be heard over the wind on the highway! Just love these babies and can’t wait to get more! Maybe the 4×6 for the dash spots?
P.S. These speakers would dovetail very nice with a good subwoofer. They sound nice and tight down to their limit.
P.P.S Bolt these speakers down TIGHT ! They are serious air moving pistons and they will shake like crazy. I suggest something metal!
